Parts of the body: a calm English–Spanish picture activity

Actual gugiboard Montessori activity: Parts of the body: a calm English–Spanish picture activity

Body words connect a picture with something a child already knows: their own face, hands and feet. Parts of the body in gugiboard’s Culture & Nature world uses a large portrait and six clear choices. It is an invitation to name and notice, not a developmental checklist.

The materials you will find

The activity covers Head, Eyes, Nose, Mouth, Hands and Feet. The face includes visible eyes, a nose and a mouth; the portrait has two hands and two feet. Selected features change appearance so the chosen word has a visible reference.

Sharing the activity

Tap one of the six named choices below the portrait, or tap the corresponding area of the picture. Either hand identifies Hands, and either foot identifies Feet. Facial taps are mapped to the portrait rather than separate dots floating around it.

Switch EN/ES to keep the picture while changing the words. Where a prepared recording is available and sound is on, tapping requests the name. Undo and redo revisit the last selection; mute keeps the activity quiet.

What to notice without a test

Say “Your hands” and show your own hands rather than asking your child to prove they know the answer. Looking, pointing and copying a gesture can all make the moment shared.

The picture is stylized, not a medical anatomy diagram. Different people look different, and a single portrait cannot represent every body. Use respectful, ordinary words and follow the child’s comfort.

Continue away from the screen

Point to your own nose or wave together, without touching a child’s face unexpectedly. A mirror can offer another view if it is safe and supervised. Let the child choose whether to join.

A song, a picture book or a hand-washing routine may make the same words meaningful away from the screen. Keep the digital session optional and short; no number of correct taps is required.

Two languages, a calm pace

Head / cabeza, eyes / ojos, nose / nariz, mouth / boca, hands / manos and feet / pies are the six pairs in this activity. Use a familiar language first and add another only when useful.

gugiboard’s Montessori area is Montessori-inspired, not an accredited program or a replacement for physical Montessori materials. Its five worlds and 28 activities have no points, rewards, countdowns, automatic advancement, background music or idle characters. Home, mute, undo and redo keep choices with the family. Share brief sessions, leave time for movement, books and real play, and stop when interest fades.
