Gugihands gesture guide: point, thumbs up and hands together

Gugihands logo, learning with gestures and voice

Gugihands is built around a few clear gestures that small hands can make. Learning them together takes a minute and lets your child move through the whole experience on their own.

Point to move

Point one finger up, down, left or right. A yellow glow moves to the next button in that direction, in menus and on lesson cards.

Hold the finger steady for a moment; Gugihands waits briefly before reacting so that quick movements are not mistaken for commands.

Thumbs up to choose

A thumbs up opens the highlighted choice, just like a double click. At the start, Gugi asks for a thumbs up to begin.

On a lesson card, Next is highlighted first, so a thumbs up continues to the following card.

Hands together for Home

Bringing both hands together returns to the menu from any lesson or game. This gesture was chosen because children rarely make it by accident while playing.

An open hand does not leave a game, so raising hands in Simon says keeps the child playing.

Fist and love sign

A closed fist asks Gugi to repeat the word and fact. The love sign 🤟 shows a floating heart and a friendly reply.

These gestures give children a way to ask for help or to express affection without stopping the activity.

Tips for reliable detection

Use good front lighting, keep the whole hand in view and sit about an arm’s length from the camera. Landmarks drawn on the preview show what the camera sees.

If gestures are not recognized, check that camera permission is allowed and that no other app is using the camera.
