First words with jungle animals: lion, elephant, monkey and friends

The lion from the gugiboard Jungle Animals board

Animals are often among a child’s first words. They are easy to recognize, fun to imitate and full of sounds. Here is how to make the most of the Jungle Animals board.

Why animals are great first words

Animals have clear shapes, bright colors and memorable sounds. A lion roars, a monkey screeches, an elephant trumpets. That mix of picture and sound gives toddlers several ways to remember the same word.

On gugiboard each animal is shown as a realistic illustration, so the picture your child sees looks like the animal in a book or at the zoo.

Tap, listen, repeat

When your child taps an animal, a friendly voice says its name and the picture grows for a moment. Repeat the word yourself, slowly and warmly. Repetition is not boring for toddlers—it is how they learn.

  1. Tap the lion together and say “lion”.
  2. Roar softly and wait for your child to copy you.
  3. Point to a lion in a book or toy.

Two languages, one picture

Switch the language to hear “león” instead of “lion”. Hearing both words linked to the same picture helps children understand that things can have more than one name. Keep it light: there is no need to quiz or correct.

Explore the “+” scene

The colorful “+” button opens a second animal scene with more creatures to discover. Completing every tile on a board moves on automatically to the next board, so the adventure continues by itself.

Bring the jungle home

After a short session, play animal walks around the room: stomp like an elephant, hop like a monkey, stretch tall like a giraffe. Movement and laughter fix the new words in memory far better than more screen time.
