Gugihands voice commands: say games, home, colors or balloons

Gugihands logo, learning with gestures and voice

Speaking is a natural way for young children to take part. In Gugihands, the voice works alongside gestures, so a child can choose and answer simply by saying a word in English or Spanish.

Commands that work everywhere

Saying “games” opens the games menu and “home” returns to the menu, from any screen. Spanish works too: “juegos” and “inicio”.

These two words give children a simple way out when they want something different.

Choose by name

In the lessons menu, children can say “letters”, “animals”, “colors”, “numbers”, “shapes”, “body” or “emotions”. In the games menu, they can say “balloons”, “Simon”, “mouth”, “car” or “fingers”.

Short and Spanish words are accepted, such as “globos”, “boca”, “carro” or “dedos”.

Say the word on the card

Many lesson cards ask the child to say the word shown, like “cat” or “red”. Close pronunciations are accepted so small children are encouraged rather than corrected.

Gugi praises the answer and moves to the next card.

Gugi listens politely

While Gugi speaks, Gugihands ignores what it hears, so Gugi’s own voice is never mistaken for a command. Listening resumes right after.

On Android, listening restarts automatically after short pauses.

Privacy and browsers

Voice recognition uses the browser’s built-in feature. In Chrome, speech audio may be processed by Google’s servers; Gugihands itself sends nothing to gugiboard.

If you prefer not to use the microphone, gestures and large touch buttons control everything as well.
